Sweet Potato Fries, Alexander Keiths, Citadel Hill
I’ll start in the beginning, otherwise I am sure I will get mixed up!
We drove into the City on friday, went to the Maritime Museum (a little bit of culture
) and learned about the Titanic, the biggest explosion (other than Heroshima) mankind has ever experienced (1917 in Halifax Harbour and blew everything away). We went to Citadel Hill, where soldiers used to live and bomb incoming ships. Quite exciting!

Finally, we went out to eat! “”Your Fathers Mustache” , sweet potato fries with their homemade curry-mayonaise. Delicious!
not strong enough!
To top it off we went to Alexander Keith’s Brewery and went on their guided Tour. It’s like going back in time with a time machine. We met almost all the important characters from that time (except for Mr. Keith himself), we had a couple of beers in the brewery-bar and watched the Guides dance and sing for us. If you get the chance, go and experience it yourself!

I’m sure I didn’t see the sign before I went up!
The last week of Basketball
Teamparty
We had our yearly teamparty on Sunday after practice, lots of Pizza, Garlic Fingers, Cake and Candy and of course – the basketball movie Hoosiers which we watch every year! It’s always fun to watch it with all the girls!
Provincials
We left School on Wednesday after classes and drove all the way to Sydney, Cape Breton. Quite a ways away, took us 6 or 7 hours! We played Millwood in our first game. Blow out: 80-28. Everybody got to play and had fun doing so!
Yarmouth
We have lost to Yarmouth three times this season. Lost to them in Regionals because we didn’t box out well enough. We switched a few things around and played as well as we could. It was a tight game right until the end!
Play by play
We were up by one at the end of the 4th quarter. Apparently Julie fouled Berrie (their big post, I have never seen Julie play as straight up as she did right there – terrible call!). She was on the line, could have finished the game by making both. Made the first one – and missed the second shot! Overtime!
Two of our startert, Julie and Kelsey were fouled out. Toni and Nogler subbed in and did a terrific job! Again, we were up by one, Yarmouth is taking the last shot – miss! Toni (by far the smallest one on the court) gets the rebound and holds it tight! Yarmouth fouls her with 0,9 seconds to go. Toni is on the line, going all crazy because this is so exciting! Yarmouth is keeping their players outside (if she makes the 2nd shot, they call a Timeout and still have 0,9 seconds to fore up a desperation shot, if she misses they don’t have enough time to chuck it up). Toni misses both her shots, as soon as the 2nd one hit the rim we yelled at her to get her rebound and put it in. She did, in very good manners, giving us the 75-72 lead by the end of the game and putting us in the finals!
Amherst vs. Middleton
We had to play well, dump it into our posts a lot, make our foulshots and stay out of foul trouble.
We didn’t make our foulshots and got in foul trouble early. It was a good game, always close, the lead going back and forth. We did not shoot the ball well at all, missed a bunch of three’s, kind of open lay ups and 13 or 14 foulshots. You definitely need those in a close game like this! Playing well and drawing fouls doesn’t help when you don’t make the foulshot. In the end we lost by 5 points. Bummer. And this to Amherst. Our rivals who we never get along with and to be honest, don’t really like.
I would have loved to win, not for me or the other Coaches but for the girls. They played a fantastic season (25-5), they are a great team where nobody cares who scores or plays well. They are happy for each other, happy to be part of this special team and ready to win the banner. They should still be proud of themselves, they played fantastic and if we had just made a few more foulshots or the one or another shot we would have won. On any other given day, we would have beat them.
Sleigh, Riding, 4 Wheeler
Jani & Freya
Tuesday was a snowday! Not exactly sure why because we didn’t have that much snow but it was enough to go out on the Sleigh with Shelley (my former Oceans teacher). She has a whole bunch of beautiful horses, a few chickens and a goat to keep the only functioning male company. We went out with Freya, a very friendly and cute horse! We went over “Stock und Stein” – over the fields with the sleigh and had a great time!
On the sleigh
It did get kind of cold, so we went back and I got to ride Freya for a little bit. I think I did quite well, riding without a sattle (nice and warm!) and never really been on a horse… Great fun, maybe we get to go out again next week!
Annapolis River
And since I have never been on a 4 Wheeler, we sped up and down the field once or twice, just so I can say I have driven a 4 Wheeler.
I had a wonderful day in the snow, did a bunch of things I have never really done before and I did get pictures! Isn’t that great!
What a cute horse!

Not even two weeks
I am leaving Middleton on the 15th to go out to Vancouver. My friends know how hard it was for me to leave Middleton in the first place, and it certainly doesn’t get easier when I am only here for two months. It is my second home, where I am always welcome, have friends and family who are happy to have me every time I come around. It’s an easy going, friendly and safe place I can call home.
